Sesquicentennial
Fiberglass Lion
Transformation

While a Graphic Designer for Gannett Wisconsin Media, I had taken on the responsibility of transforming this lion into something that will accurately and proudly represent the City of Appleton through the past 150 years. The lion is an abstract representation of how the City of Appleton has evolved over time. Extensive research of archives and through the Outagamie County Historical Society brought me my vision for this piece.

A collage of images from the last 150 years covers one side of the lion. On the other, images of how College Avenue appears today. The river running down its back separates both time periods, exemplifying the importance of the Fox River and the development of the City of Appleton. The colors chosen are to reflect the City of Appleton’s Sesquicentennial logo that I also designed.
